Having a happy family seemed impossible

Although Gilbert and Edwina come from very different backgrounds, their faith and trust in God brought them together and transformed their lives in ways they never imagined.

 

Gilbert remembers how it all began: ”I used to be timid, with low self-esteem. I often felt small and intimidated by others. However, through attending services in the Universal Church, I learnt that God loved me and had a plan for my life. I surrendered to Him and committed to learning and obeying His Word. I gradually became a new person with a mindset aligned to God's thoughts. I gained confidence and assurance to face life's challenges and overcome them.

 

I started attending the Chain of Prayer for the Family on Thursdays and trusted that God would bless me with my own family. I didn’t want to choose for myself but asked God to guide me to a woman who shared my faith and devotion to Him. That’s when I met Edwina, and together, we have built our loving family.  We love and respect each other, we are united in faith and God has blessed us with a son. I am truly happy as a husband and father," said Gilbert.

 

Edwina also did not believe that having a solid, loving family was possible: “I grew up in a family that was far from ideal. My father betrayed my mother and even brought the women he was having affairs with to our home. Watching my mother suffer hurt me deeply, and after my father passed away in an accident, my mother struggled to support us. This made me angry and I vowed never to depend on a man or get married. I became bitter and unhappy. Later on, I suffered many failed relationships and I convinced myself that my love life was cursed. 

 

However, when I started attending services in the Universal Church, I learnt that God values family and wants us to be happy. I realised that holding onto anger and hopelessness was only harming me. I surrendered my life to God and He changed me from within. It was then that I met Gilbert, and together we have built a family that honours God. Our marriage is built on love, respect and faith in God. I couldn’t be more grateful.

 

Together, we are living proof of God's power. He took our individual struggles, healed our hearts and brought us together to form a family rooted in faith and love. Today, we are happy, united and committed to serving God as a family," said Edwina.
